011 Mechanical Belt Modeling

This tutorial shows the modeling of a mechancial belt like the one shown below. The tooth profile is shown in the picture below.

To model this Mechanical Belt, four steps are done:

  1. The tooth profile is drawn according to the dimensions shown above.
  2. The Profile is extruded.
  3. The extrusion is patterned using curve pattern technique.
  4. The curve of the pattern is drawn.

Here is the video that demonstrates the modeling of the belt:

  2. Hi Arshad,

Regarding the sprocket and chain mechanism, I did not really go into this before, but I think that first, you need to take the design calculations of the step width into consideration, according to which, you will determine the diamter of the chain pieces.

If you are done with all of this, you will have no difficulty in fitting the chain into the sprocket.

If you still need some help, write me back.

  3. Hi Hazem,

I'm trying to make a mechanism using a belt and a couple of pulleys. There's a clamp that connects the belt to an arm that moves an object linearly. Do you know how to model this situation. I've seen only one animation online showing a conveyer belt with text that moves along the belt, but there are no details on how to constrain the various components. Normally, in Wildfire 5 only the pulleys move, the belt remains stationary.

    Thanks,
    Scott
